UPDATE: Holy hell, the Broncos beat the Pats! They needed six field goals to do it, but I’m ok with that! Also, the Browns still aren’t quite a real team, the Lions somehow managed not to screw things up when the coach’s job was on the line, and Kirk Cousins proves that maybe all that guaranteed money isn’t a good idea.
Hey, it looks like football is actually going to happen today!
One good thing about the Broncos-Patriots game being pushed back a week is that they get Drew Lock back. I mean, they’re doing that stupid “will-he-or-won’t-he-I’m-not-telling-tee-hee” thing, but he’s going to start. It doesn’t matter, I still expect them to lose. Don’t get me wrong, I know the Patriots aren’t this intimidating unbeatable monolith anymore. It’s totally a winnable game. The problem is, for the last decade or so the Broncos simply cannot stop a running QB. *cough* Sam Darnold *cough* Even if that QB isn’t known for running. (If you go back and look at Tom Brady’s longest runs over his career, I’d be willing to bet most of them were against the Broncos.) I fully expect Cam Newton to gain like 200 yards while none of their running backs get more than 25. Anyway, I’d hoped to see Noah Fant back but he’s going to stay out. We might see Albert Okwuegbunam for the first time, though. Hey, I spelled his name right from memory! I haven’t heard about A.J. Bouye one way or the other so I’ll assume he’s still out too. No Melvin Gordon (strep and bad decision making) but Philip Lindsay is back. Something tells me this might be a sloppy game on both sides. They both had their game plans installed a week ago and then suddenly had an extra week to nitpick and overthink things. Unless the Pats start committing a bunch of turnovers, I think they win and it probably won’t be all that close.
The Broncos-Pats game is our only CBS game today. On Fox we get Bengals-Colts early, which I’m not at all interested in. I’m assuming the Colts win but boy, they’re kinda tough to watch. The late game is the good one, Packers at Bucs. I’m going with Green Bay and I don’t think it will even be close. Not because of Tom Brady, I just don’t think the rest of the Bucs are up to it. SNF is Rams at 49ers, which should be at least entertaining. Jimmy G looked so bad when he tried to come back, and I doubt he’s totally healed so I’ll take the Rams. Monday there’s two games again due to the Covid shuffle. The early game is Chiefs-Bills. I know I shouldn’t but I’m going to go with the Bills since it’s in Buffalo. Then after that it’s Cardinals-Cowboys. Hmm. I think that’s a toss up, but I’m leaning towards Dallas.
The rest:
Browns at Steelers - Wow, this might actually live up to everyone’s expectations for once! Go Browns.
Lions at Jaguars - Gross. Jags are the better team, which is hard to say without snickering.
Texans at Titans - The Texans got the Romeo Crennel bounce last week. I think they might upset the Titans. No real reason, just a feeling.
Teamies at Giants - I wish Alex Smith was getting the start. They’re playing the Giants, though, so does it matter who they have at QB? (Side note, can we rearrange it to Washington Team Football so we can call them the WTFs?)
Ravens at Eagles - Ravens, probably? I don’t know. Someone will win! Unless they tie. I have a hard time caring about interconference games especially when the teams aren’t evenly matched.
Falcons at Vikings - Are the Vikings enough of a mess to lose this one? I hope not.
Bears at Panthers - I’ll take “Teams With Winning Records That No One Takes Seriously” for $800, Alex.
Jets at Dolphins - I’d love to see Ryan Fitzpatrick shred the Jets today.
Raiders, Chargers, Seahawks, and Saints are on their byes.
We’ve got a nice cloudy, cold day. FINALLY. Feels like football weather. Hopefully the colder temps bring some rain or snow soon, because our state is still very on fire.

Go Bills! I haven’t looked to see if tre white and Milano are back this week. I’m hoping last week against the titans was just an off week because they were looking like the old Bills again.

I mean, the Titans are actually good. I don’t fault the Bills for losing that one.
I can’t seem to find any info on White so I don’t know how he’s progressing.

This Denver game is maddening. Denver is awful. The Patriots look like a preseason team. They should have just used the pre-season to expose all the players to COVID then just played the season with anitbodies. This is garbage for entertainment.

I’m gonna disagree with you. The Broncos aren’t awful, they’re young. And they’re coached by a guy that might eventually put it all together but he might be a better coordinator. The Broncos D is playing really well.
Why on earth would Belichick go for two there? There’s no reason to do it yet. They deserve to lose, that’s a Vance-Joseph-level mistake.

I’m sure there’s some kind of odds that are being played there, but I don’t know.
DL seems like a decent future QB if he’s not ruined by bad head coaching.
I’m going to disagree on the Denver D. It’s been fine, but that Patriots front line is swiss cheese with all the injuries.

You can disagree, and I acknowledge the injuries. But those three takeaways were the best the Denver D has had in a long time. I won’t fault Cam for those, they were both tipped. Have I mentioned how much I love Shelby Harris? Because I do.
I really hope that doesn't happen with Drew Lock. I want to like Vic Fangio but man, he makes decisions that make me want to stab myself in the eye.

The catch on the tipped ball interception was very athletic. I do actually fault Cam on both of those picks. Tipped balls have been a problem for him all year. He looked awful all game - slow on his reads, taking sacks instead of using his legs or throwing it away, and lowering his arm angle.
Vic Fangio is a joke.

Hey now, Mr. SW, we rode one those all the way to the Super Bowl some years back... (some = 14 years, and now I feel old).
Edit: well, that’s a win!
Defense, great, with moments of terror. Offense, skilled, but play calling is clearly coming from a Magic 8 Ball.

Oh for sure, wasn’t trying to say the titans aren’t good just that our defense was letting just about every play be 5yards and no one could catch a pass

I have no interest in the Titans or Texans but dang, that was quite an ending. Would any of you have gone for two on that last Texans touchdown?

Cam is who he is.
I’m not going to hate on him. If the Pats ever figure out how to use him right, they’ll win a lot of games.
I don’t think Vic is all bad. I’m not sure he’s ever going to figure out how to be a head coach in the NFL, though.

The defense is pretty good - better than they get credit for, I think.
The offense is close to “Rex is our quarterback” levels.

Not hating, just he had a bad game. I’ll chalk that up to 2+ weeks of not practicing.

It must be. This was exactly the kind of game the Broncos lose and somehow they won. It’s a sign of the apocalypse.

Considering all the broncos setbacks I thought they looked pretty ok. Lock did alright against that generally solid defense.

He did ok. Honestly, I’m more upset over that one sack he took than either of the picks. He’s got to know when to throw it away.

Not as bad as the drops, though. I can understand Albert O, it was the first time he’s had game action. Daesean Hamilton just keeps finding new ways to disappoint.
